This morning I’m packing and heading out to Myrtle Beach for the next couple of days. Will I play in the ocean? No. This trip is for business. I’m traveling to work with my own business coach. Yes, I’m a business coach and I have a business coach. I also have a speaking coach.
Now you may be asking yourself why would a business coach and professional speaker have coaches. Let me answer that question for you. I believe that in order to stay current and to bring my absolute best to the table for my clients I need to continue my own development by continuing to learn. Honing one's craft is a continuous exercise if one wants to continue to grow both professionally and financially. So today I ask you, what have you done lately to add value to your business? Staying updated and current is critical no matter what you do but it doesn’t have to be difficult. For me having a mentor/coach is just one of the ways I’ve found to do this but I also…
- Read business magazines daily
- Read at a business book weekly
- Pay attention to businesses I frequent and take note of what they are doing right (and wrong)
- Stay up to date on current events and politics
- Notice what others in my area of expertise are doing
- Take programs and classes that cause me to stretch and grow
This week I challenge you to pay attention to how you keep yourself up to date in your own industry. If you haven’t taken a new class, read a book related to your field lately, spent some time on your business rather than in your business for a while or worked with a mentor then it’s time to expand your horizons. Keeping up with your skill set will help you create momentum AND GROWTH FINANCIALLY. To do nothing is to be stagnate. If you’ve ignored your knowledge and skill set for a while make the choice to getback in the flow this week by finding a way to expand your knowledge. Take time to sign up for a class, find a great book or even find your own mentor. If it’s growth you want then you have to put in the work to make it happen.
Off to pack my bags and get ready for my road trip! Excited for new knowledge and challenges!
