Beauty Tips with Clara Toomey: PHYSICAL VS. CHEMICAL SPF

Beauty Tips with Clara Toomey: PHYSICAL VS. CHEMICAL SPF

Sunscreens are either 'physical' or 'chemical'.
Sun Kissed is a tinted physical sunscreen that is wonderful for all skin tones. It is great as a mattifying + protective make-up primer OR worn alone as a light foundation.
Keep on reading to learn a little more about the differences between physical and chemical sunscreens.

PHYSICAL
•Naturally broad spectrum with protection against UVA + UVB.
•Protects immediately once it is applied.
•Less likely to cause stinging or irritation, therefore better for sensitive skin.
•Less likely to be pore-clogging, making it ideal for blemish prone skin.
•Better option for skin prone to redness and rosacea since it deflects heat away from the skin.

CHEMICAL
•Requires 20 minutes to activate before it is effective.
•Increased chance of sensitivity due to the multiple ingredients required to achieve broad spectrum coverage. (Also, the higher the SPF, the higher the risk of irritation.)
•Increased redness for rosacea-prone skin because it changes UV rays into heat, which can exacerbate flushing
•May clog pores.
•May cause an increase in existing brown spots and discoloration due to a higher internal skin temperature.

When choosing a sunscreen choose physical. At The Derm Bar MD LLC all of our sunscreens are physical and you have two to choose from Sun Kissed tinted SPF 22 or Don't Be a Lobster SPF 35 which goes on clear. Call 865-556-0543 to order yours! We also ship nation wide!
