Meg Prewitt

As a former national home shopping host with a vast background in marketing, Meg Whitney brings an array of talents and skills to her lifestyle candle brand, Family Tree Candle Company. Always having an entrepreneurial spirit, she had visions of owning a boutique-type business one day in her future. As a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a degree in English Literature, Meg never imagined her niche would be creating inspiring aromas for many to enjoy in their homes. She quickly realized the creative outlet and therapeutic result candle making offered and fell in love. Scent is a special sense not to be overlooked and Meg’s candles allow you to journey back in time where a smell can trigger those unforgettable memories. Pecan Pie was the first scent created by Meg and it reminded her of baking pies with the family during the holidays. “Smells like home,” is the Family Tree sentiment, no matter where you are in the world, these candles can bring you back to a place of coziness and comfort.

What started as a Thursday night candle hobby with her husband, soon turned into a business venture that is expanding every day on a national scale. The Family Tree candle brand prides itself on exceptional hand-poured quality, the inclusion of essentials oils and thoughtful touches of southern charm. The “secret family recipe” took years to achieve and now she wants to share it with you in your home. Because of the exact measurement of oil and scent, those sensitive to fragrance should be able to enjoy Family Tree candles without irritation. Unlike a mass manufactured candle, Family Tree focuses on the perfect amount of each ingredient. The southern nostalgic packaging pays homage to Meg's Tennessee roots. The gingham ribbon and hand stamped muslin bags, add extra charm to every candle. Meg’s sentiment is that in a fast paced world, it’s essential to add in special touches of thoughtfulness and detail. Her candles make for a cute home decor piece, not just a standard jar candle, this is on purpose for added “sweetness, y’all!” There are definite aspirations for Family Tree to become a household name, but to always keep that “down home feel.”

Over the years, friends would volunteer or inquire about wanting to hand pour candles, so early in 2017, Meg Whitney established a new and innovative concept with "SIP&POUR," a wine tasting and candle making experience. She thought, “Why not pass along the candle making experience for all to enjoy?” Offering private parties, bridal showers and company events, SIP&POUR is coined “the first candle making and wine tasting experience.” The recent inclusion of a master wine sommelier, elevates the wine tasting portion of the events. A partnership with DollyWood's DreamMore Resort and Spa in Sevierville, TN has propelled SIP&POUR into a new possible market. More resort opportunities are sure to follow for SIP&POUR.
